Why the name SolarPunk?
Solarpunk is a literary and artistic movement that envisions and works toward actualizing a sustainable future interconnected with nature and community. The “solar” represents solar energy as a renewable energy source and an optimistic vision of the future that rejects climate doomerism. While the “punk” refers to the countercultural, post-capitalist, and decolonial enthusiasm for creating such a future.

About me
My name is James Manzer. In the 3rd grade I started the “Save the Earth Club”. I was born in the 80’s and was a Captain Planet Kid. Since then I’ve known I wanted to dedicate my life to improving the planet we call home. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science from an Environmental Liberal Arts College, focused on Sustainability I realized I had no real skills to apply to making this mission a reality. It took me a decade of working menial jobs in hospitality, sales, construction, food and beverage… getting no where and just showing up for the paycheck to determine I had to double down.
Fast forward and after 2 semesters in a local tech college, volunteering with a local low income energy assistance program, joining my local Energy Corps and getting my BPI and HERS licenses with an MBA in Sustainable Business I have had the awesome opportunity to educate, design, build and manage hundreds of energy efficiency and solar projects across the US, Australia and Uganda. After almost 20 years “in the business” I want to expand my reach and help others make the same transition I made from menial uninspiring jobs, barely scaping by to a career in an industry rebuilding the way energy is generated, buildings are conditioned and transportation is powered. Except instead of 2 years of school and volunteering I want to give you the important skills and knowledge in 8 classes and a final project. I’ll bring together everything you learned in a meaningful real world way.

Energy is neither created nor destroyed. But it can be learned! Volts x Amps, Btus into kWhs. Its back to basics to establish a strong foundation on our journey.

Planes Trains and Automobiles are all going electric. From homes to office buildings, smart buildings and manufacturing all are switching to electric processes.
